Although I tend to keep my house decorated with a neutral modern feel, I do tend to dress it up over the holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and Independence Day). I didn’t get to decorate as much as I wanted to this year due to illness and work commitments but I am taking full advantage of the Halloween clearance sales to prep for next year! As a busy mom, I don’t really have time to go out into stores and shop – I do the bulk of my shopping online and mix in special pieces that “sing” to me when I am out on those rare solo trips to the store.

Now that the holidays are just around the corner, I wanted to share some of my favorite pieces from my personal wishlists with you and hope that you will get inspired for your own home! Let me know what you think and feel free to share some pictures of your own festive decor.

Halloween Collage

#1 – You can never go wrong with an awesome pumpkin! This one caught my eye because of it’s unique metal wire design and it’s dual use versatility as a transition piece into an overall Autumn theme or Thanksgiving piece. Pier 1 Imports, Metal Leaf Pumpkin

#2 – In honor of Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), I like to use some calavera (skull) accents with my Halloween decor. These plates are perfect for serving snacks at a party or offering up candy to your visitors. World Market, Muertos Plates

#3 – This cookie/candy jar is PERFECT for your kitchen or living room as an accent piece for your Halloween decor. I really like it because it’s a clever way to hide the goods in plain site. World Market, Spell Book Jar

#4 – A cute way to light up the night, these little guys can be used to accent your decor and help you switch out light fixtures that might clash with your theme. I recommend using them along porch railings and fence lines with an extension cord! World Market, Skeleton String LIghts

#5 – This pillow will look great as a cute nod to the season on your couch or window seat if you don’t feel like going all out and decorating the inside of the house. Pier 1 Imports, Spider Pillow

#6 – Trick or Treaters will appreciate your attention to detail while their safety minded parents who see these illuminating the path to your house. Best of all, they are fire resistant and you can drop a tealight in them – no batteries required. World Market, Witch Luminary Bags

#7 – There is always that one house that has an awesome tealight holder/decoration in the front window. Let that be your house this Halloween! Pier 1 Imports, Haunted House Tealight holder

#8 – Another cute idea that can be used in any room of the house, this is another take on the traditional garland or banner decoration. These little guys take advantage of normal air movement and it’s a festive alternative to boring banners that just hang there. World Market, Bat Banner

#9 – Last but not least, I love pillows and cushions (can you tell…) and I loved this owl cushion. There is just something about the owl that brings spooky autumn evenings to life for me. I could see this one on a recliner or decorative bench. Pier 1 Imports, Owl Cushion
