Merry HallowThanksMas!!
Have you noticed that people seem to have very strong opinions about Christmas decorations that show up before Thanksgiving? These days, it seems like stores start celebrating Christmas before we’ve even gone Trick or Treating!
Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas!! I love all the decorations and lights. I love seeing the wonder and excitement in my son’s eyes. I love getting together with family and friends. And most of all, I love celebrating the “Reason” for the Season! … but I also love Fall and pumpkins, Halloween and cute little Trick-or-Treaters, Thanksgiving and turkey, family gatherings and PIES!!!
And that’s why my choice has always been ‘no Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving’. I might start Christmas shopping the first part of November, but I don’t decorate until after turkey-time. I also don’t listen to Christmas music until the day after Thanksgiving ( I’m talking like the VERY next morning…I love Christmas music!!!…but that’s another subject…).
I feel like if you are constantly looking toward the next big thing, you forget to appreciate the present. I have so many things to be thankful for, like being able to celebrate together with my hubby and son, and I want to concentrate on that thankfulness just a little bit longer before visions of sugarplums start dancing in my head.
What about you? Do you decorate before or after Thanksgiving? and Why?
