the hills are alive…
…with the sound of music!!!
I only have myself to blame. I was talking to my son the other day about whether he wanted to play soccer or maybe be in boy scouts this year when I had a random thought…what if he took music lessons?
I love music, always have. I’ve always got a song in my head, just waiting for me to start belting it out. My talent is singing, but I’ve always wished I had learned to play the piano. So I thought I’d offer that option to my son, who also loves music (although I can’t quite tell if he has an ear for it or is completely tone deaf like his father). There are many benefits when you get your child involved in music lessons. It helps teach them discipline and patience. It can help with their coordination and motor skills. It can also boost their self confidence.
These are all great things right?! So you might be wondering why I said earlier that ‘I only have myself to blame’. It’s because when I asked him about it, my son said (with a mischievous glint in his eye) “and you know exactly what I want to play…the drums!!!”. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not against it and I think drums are awesome and fun…but I see soundproofing my garage in my future. And headaches…lots of headaches :). But aside from that, I’m super excited! Now I just have to find him some lessons…
I’ll let you know how that turns out. Anybody out there play the drums who can give me some guidance on what all I need to know? Do your kids take music lessons? Have you noticed any positive changes?
