Sensory Saturday: Slide Painting
Happy Saturday, friends! I hope that your weekend is relaxing, fun-filled, and that you are able to connect with family and friends in a way that keeps you refreshed throughout the week. Don’t have plans yet? I have the perfect activity for you to do with your kids (young and old!).
I saw this activity the other day and decided almost immediately that I must try it. I modified it a bit to fit the items we had at home and for my younger children.
Long sheet of plastic
White t-shirt (optional)
I was able to use the leftover paint from our Mother’s Day craft last week. I love being able to reuse materials and I even have an idea for the paint we have left for a craft for next week! Stay tuned.
The original activity tells the reader to wear a white t-shirt. This isn’t necessary if you don’t plan on the paint staying on. I used washable paint so it wouldn’t have mattered if they had a colored shirt on or not.
However, here they are before we began. They had no idea what we would be doing!
Maddy was very concerned when she watched me squirt paint onto her slide.
They were very patient as I finished setting up. Here was the finished, untouched product.
Here is where the fun began!
It was extremely slippery the first slide down after the paint was applied.
I reapplied the paint a few times since the cloth from Maddy’s shorts dried it up pretty quickly. Maddy didn’t complain!
Oliver had no interest in participating. He didn’t even get near the paint until I placed him on top of the slide and held his hand going down. He only tried it once.
Maddy could not get enough of it!
The cleanup ended up being the best part for Oliver and was absolutely hilarious to watch their joy! I’m just glad it was hot enough to not feel bad about spraying them off in the cold water.
This activity proved to be fun, easy, and one I would let them do again and again. A water balloon fight would be a great way to wrap up for older kids.
Have you done anything like this before? How did it turn out? Let us know in the comments!
Have a wonderful weekend!
